REMAINS
Welcome to my gallery
Back in 2003 I was going to an art-oriented high-school. One week, a teacher had us craft masks with paper mache. It occurred to me to use some clay instead, and bring a few small bones I had stored at home. I used to pick up bones in the mountains that I would mostly store away for no evident purpose. They fascinated me, and I remember having to negotiate with my parents, who weren’t too keen on keeping smelly remains in the trunk on the whole way back. Coco, as my siblings and friends would call it, is the beginning of it all.
My name is María J Ferreira Ruiz and Remains is my art portfolio. Many of my pieces have been given as presents to family and friends, while others I keep just for myself. Every piece is unique and organised around a center item that triggers a design idea. My pieces bring together naturally shaped forms and remains, such as bones, with industrially crafted ones, such as hardware items.
